The via ferrata “school” at Les Aillons-Margériaz: a safe introduction to the sport
Want to get off the beaten track? Head to Les Aillons-Margériaz, in the heart of the Bauges massif, to try out the via ferrata “school” and discover the pleasures of mountain climbing. Here, nature becomes your playground, with limestone walls, breathtaking views and controlled adrenalin.
The Aillons-Margériaz via ferrata, located on the right bank of the Col du Martinet (1,000 m altitude), is designed for beginners. There are three sectors of progressive difficulty, so you can start out in complete safety:
- Sector 1: learning the techniques, with a variety of passages, a ladder and a Nepalese bridge.
- Sector 2: easy, horizontal traverse with panoramic footbridge.
- Section 3: more challenging, with a monkey bridge and, for volunteers, a 20-metre zip line.
Easy access (10-minute walk from the car park), but beware: equipment is compulsory (helmet, harness, special lanyards). Equipment available for hire at the resort (Aillon Sport, Intersport). If you’re a first-timer, remember to hire a qualified guide.
