Regional nature park du Massif de Chartreuse

An inhabited, inspiring and committed mountain

Between Savoie and Isère, between Chambéry and Grenoble, the Chartreuse Regional Nature Park is a living, protected and deeply human territory. Here, the mountains are not just a backdrop, they’re a place to live. You can discover it at human level, at the rhythm of your footsteps, in the silence of a forest or at the turn of a village clinging to the slope.

Classified as a Regional Nature Park since 1995, the Chartreuse is home to remarkable biodiversity, rare species, spectacular landscapes and a strong identity, shaped by centuries of human presence.

An inhabited mountain inspiring and committed

Welcome to the Chartreuse Regional Nature Park, an area listed for the beauty of its landscapes and the richness of its biodiversity. Just a stone’s throw from Chambéry, this is a world apart, where nature speaks softly but intensely.

Here, you can hike along the ridges, come across a deer or a fox on the edge of a path, and marvel at the evening lights on the cliffs. In winter, the Chartreuse is silent and white, ideal for snowshoeing or cross-country skiing. In summer, it reveals its secret refuges, mountain pastures and discreet bell towers.

Powerful landscapes nature that soothes

This unique limestone massif will surprise you with the variety of its landscapes: breathtaking gorges, open mountain pastures, secret plateaux, deep forests, white cliffs… The Chartreuse is alive, vibrant, almost mystical.

Each trail here tells its own story: that of the Carthusian monks, the charcoal burners, the Resistance fighters and the shepherds. Hike towards the Dent de Crolles, the Charmant Som or the heights of Saint-Pierre-de-Chartreuse, and let yourself be swept away by this calm, raw energy.

A committed region and accessible

La Chartreuse is also an example of ecological transition in action. Eco-tourism, short circuits, renovation of old buildings, promotion of traditional skills… Local communities, residents, farmers and guides are all working together to preserve this living heritage.

And the good news is that the massif is just around the corner. From Chambéry Montagnes, it’s easily accessible via Saint-Cassin, Montagnole, Saint-Sulpice or Saint-Baldoph.

To live, breathe and feel

What awaits you in the Chartreuse? Forest walks, breathtaking panoramas, mountain huts, peaceful hamlets, craft workshops, farmers’ markets and genuine encounters.

It’s a mountain inhabited and inhabitant, an authentic interlude, a territory where you’ll be invited, not just a tourist.
