Sustainable tourism

Travelling differently starts here

There’s no need for grand speeches or slogans to love and respect our surroundings.
At Chambéry Montagnes, we go forward with common sense, humility… and conviction.
We’re banking on our strengths: unspoilt nature, authentic know-how, accessible soft mobility and committed producers.

Responsible tourism is not a posture, it’s a way of doing things.
And above all, it’s an invitation to travel differently, together.

Our assets & resources

You don’t have to go to the ends of the earth to breathe the pure mountain air, come across a chamois, toast with a passionate winegrower or meander through alleys steeped in history.

It all starts here, at Chambéry Montagnes! An area that already has a lot to offer, without the frills.

1Coming without a car is possible (and easy!)
  • Chambéry is a TGV station in the heart of the Alps. 3 hours from Paris, 2 hours from Lyon, 3h30 from Marseille… And once you’re there, you can do almost everything by soft mobility:

  • More than 100 km of cycle paths: whether you’re taking an urban stroll or a scenic escape along the Belle Via, it’s up to you to pedal.

  • A network of buses to get you to the trails and resorts, even without a steering wheel!

2Living and protected biodiversity
  • For us, nature isn’t a postcard, it’s a daily commitment:

  • Two regional nature parks, the Massif des Bauges and the Chartreuse, have been watching over the flora and fauna for 30 years.

  • Monitoring Natura 2000 species, counting chamois and birds of prey… Biodiversity is no laughing matter.

  • Species to preserve: orchids, black grouse, remarkable trees…

  • The Parc des Bauges is also classified as a Geopark by UNESCO. It’s a geological gem!

3Local produce, the real thing, the good stuff
  • Here, the terroir is tasted at source:

  • Dynamic agriculture producing many PDO and PGI products.

  • Products with a local flavour: Tome des Bauges, vermouth, Savoie wines, plants…

  • More than 20 grape varieties, most of them indigenous, grown on 2050 hectares.
Passionate winegrowers, guardians of a living heritage, perpetuating the tradition of sloping wines.
Rare expertise, particularly in vine nurseries, sought after well beyond our borders.

  • Even our manufacturers are playing the game, like Alpina, which now offers pasta guaranteed free of pesticide residues.

  • From field to plate, we’re focusing on local and seasonal produce, with markets, fruit farms and our authentic-smelling Ruche Boutik.

4Living know-how
  • In our region, we don’t just protect nature. We also value people:

  • Leading brands combine traditional know-how and industrial dynamism to perfection: Opinel, Dolin, Routin, Alpina, Brasserie du Mont Blanc, café Folliet…

  • Our many craftsmen, in town and in the mountains, perpetuate unique skills and traditions.

5Committed events
  • Even large gatherings are getting in on the act:

  • Savoiexpo, which has ISO 20121 certification, is implementing numerous measures to improve the environmental dimension of its major events.

  • For example, at the last Destination Montagnes trade show, the organiser sorted almost 230 kg of waste, including compost, glass, cans and cups. Not bad, is it?

A collective commitment, rooted in the region

Here, sustainable tourism is not a fad. It’s a dynamic driven by an entire region – local authorities, parks, resorts, residents and professionals. Together, we’re moving forward, with a simple idea in mind: to combine hospitality, nature and the future.

Our committed players

Labelled or committed to a more sustainable approach thanks to their individual actions, our partner service providers help to preserve our environment while offering quality services.

Let’s take a look at some of them…

Join us

Do you love this region? So do we.
And we’re offering you the chance to preserve it together, at your own pace, without pressure, but with a smile.
Because every little bit helps…

I travel low carbon

What if your trip started with a step aside?
On foot, by bike, by train, by bus, by car pooling or car sharing, there’s no shortage of alternatives to the car.
Electric terminals, Synchro Montagnes, transport on demand: here, everything is ready to move differently.

Conserving energy

It’s a simple thing to do, but it changes everything:

  • Turning off the lights when you leave
  • Turn down the heating or air conditioning
  • Limit appliances on standby…

On holiday, too, energy-saving gestures make all the difference.

Reducing my waste

Less plastic means more nature. Think :

  • Zero plastic and reusable containers
  • Selective sorting and composting
  • Pocket ashtrays for smokers
  • And why not collect some rubbish during the walk?

I respect my environment

You have to share your territory. For a peaceful cohabitation:

  • Stay on marked footpaths
  • Respect the herd guard dogs
  • Avoid bivouacking outside authorised areas
  • Observe wildlife without disturbing it
  • And if you come across an injured wild animal, contact the pros

I eat locally

It’s good for the planet, the economy and your taste buds.
Markets, artisans, committed businesses, local currency…

Here, the focus is on short circuits and real encounters.

I discover differently

Take your time. To visit, to understand, to meet.

Guided tours, workshops, walks with enthusiastic guides…

And if you want to go further, take a look at our calendar of events: conferences, collective collections, committed exhibitions…
