The great crossing Savoie Grand Revard

Nordic itinerary at La Féclaz

Looking for a breath of fresh air, soothing silence and simple emotions? This winter, enjoy a full day in the great outdoors on the Grande Traversée nordique, a magical loop between La Féclaz and Saint-François-de-Sales, in the heart of the Savoie Grand Revard ski area. On foot in the morning, skis in the afternoon, you follow a varied and fun winter itinerary, punctuated by splendid views, snow-covered forests and gourmet breaks.

Accessible to beginners in cross-country skiing or snowshoeing, this outing is a great opportunity to test your independence, apply the advice you’ve received on courses and, above all, make the most of the wide open spaces of Savoie.

A Nordic adventure
with friends, family or as a duo

The Grande Traversée is above all a time for sharing. You can do it as a couple, as a family or in a small group. It’s also a challenge for everyone, ideal for beginners or improving cross-country skiers. There’s no time limit here, just the pleasure of pushing yourself, at your own pace, in an exceptional natural setting.

A smooth
from
La Féclaz

From the moment you set off in the morning, the mood is one of adventure. Well equipped for winter (warm clothing, hat, gloves, sunglasses, sun cream and rucksack with snacks and water bottle), you’re ready to set off from La Féclaz, snowshoes in hand.

The starting signal is given at the Nordic Attitude shop, where you can easily hire your equipment (booking recommended on 04 79 25 60 45). Make sure you specify that you’re setting off on the Grande Traversée: your equipment will be collected at the next stage.

Before you set off, don’t forget to download the free mHikes application, which will guide you along the route with a GPS track of the “Traversée des trappeurs – Savoie Grand Revard” itinerary. Let yourself be guided, it’s intuitive and safe.

En route to
La Magne,
in the footsteps of the trappers

You begin the crossing on a snow-covered footpath lined with majestic fir trees. The path widens gently to reach the Col de Plainpalais, with the cliffs of the Margériaz in your sights. The gentle terrain allows you to gradually enter the Nordic atmosphere. After a few playful bumps and beautiful views, you’ll reach the hamlet of La Magne, in Saint-François-de-Sales, after around 7km of walking.

This is the perfect time to take your first break and drop off your snowshoes at Nordicéa, who will return them to La Féclaz for you.

Lunch in the sun or by the fire

There are two ways to recharge your batteries:

  • Picnic option: take a seat in the “hors sac” area of the Saint-François-de-Sales cross-country ski centre. The sunny terrace offers a breathtaking view of the Bauges. And your basket of carefully prepared local specialities (Tome des Bauges, farmhouse bread, local chocolate) will taste as good as ever.
  • The cocooning option: push open the door of Nordicéa, a warm and friendly place, perfect for recharging your batteries. Home-made tartiflette, soup of the day, polenta with porcini mushrooms… all prepared with Savoyard produce. Bonus: a hot chocolate by the fire, a game of board games with the family or a moment’s reading with the books available.

Head for the great outdoors,
on cross-country skis

After lunch, it’s time to hit the slopes! At Nordicéa, the team will advise you on the equipment best suited to your level. Whether you prefer classic (alternative) skiing for a more leisurely approach, or skating for a more invigorating effort, you’ll be well looked after.

Once you’ve got your Nordic ski pass, it’s off to the groomed pistes. The mHikes app or the signposts in the area will guide you on the second part of the Grande Traversée, this time on the cross-country side. In all, 8 km of gliding through forests and clearings await you.

You start off on the Croix des Bergers green run, perfect for warming up. The snow crunches under your skis, the air is pure and the horizon opens out onto the Bauges massif. You cross the Creusates peat bog, a vast expanse of white bordered by typical chalets, before joining the blue piste at La Petite Teppe.

A gradual climb takes you up to the Crolles cross-country ski centre, before heading off along the green Olette trail towards Arcoutier. The final, more aerial stage takes you down the blue pistes of La Cavale, on the edge of the forest. Here, the view opens up, offering a magnificent panorama of the Belledonne massif, often tinged pink at the end of the day.

Back to La Féclaz,
mission accomplished

The loop is slowly coming full circle. You return to La Féclaz in the late afternoon, tired but delighted. Your ski equipment can be returned to Nordic Attitude, and will be repatriated for you if necessary.

In one day, you’ll have covered almost 15 km on snowshoes and cross-country skis, discovered sublime landscapes, shared some great moments, and taken up a great sporting and personal challenge. If you’ve taken a ski or snowshoe course recently, this outing is an excellent opportunity to improve your technique, independence and effort management.

End on a high note at the Village Tipi

If you want to continue your adventure in the spirit of the trappers, head for the Village Tipi, just 10 minutes away by car. Here you’ll find fun activities, Nordic wellbeing, a night in a tipi and a warm atmosphere to round off an unforgettable day.

A day to reconnect, excel and enjoy yourself

The Grande Traversée nordique is more than just a route: it’s a complete experience, combining gentle adventure, immersion in nature and moments of togetherness. It’s the essence of Savoie, to be enjoyed in freedom and confidence, on the high plateaux of Savoie Grand Revard.
