Walks & Hikes Chambéry Montagnes

Here, hiking isn’t just a leisure activity… it’s an immersive experience.
From gentle family walks to long high-altitude treks, every trail reveals a fragment of our natural world, a glimpse of our culture. And always, that rare sensation: walking at the heart of a living landscape.
The Chartreuse Mountains, the Bauges, valleys, mountain pastures, forests… at every turn, the magic unfolds.

The mountains for everyone, in all their natural splendour

To each their own peak!

Here, you don’t need to set your sights on Everest to enjoy the mountains. At Chambéry Montagnes, there are trails to suit all styles and all levels. Whether you’re pushing a pushchair, wearing trainers, using walking poles or carrying a big rucksack: everyone can go at their own pace, with no pressure (apart from the altitude).

Fancy a leisurely family stroll? That’s possible.
A really steep climb to challenge yourself? We’ve got that too.

And whatever you choose, you’ll be treated to fresh air, panoramic views and a tingling sensation in your legs.
In short, whether you’re in ‘light hiking’ mode or feeling like a Nepalese sherpa, everyone’s welcome on the trails here.
And that’s not something you find everywhere.

Top 3 peaceful walks

Here are three easy walks to enjoy together, taking in enchanting forests, tranquil lakes and panoramic viewpoints. Gentle, accessible trails full of surprises, perfect for introducing young and old alike to the joys of walking, without pushing yourselves too hard. Pack your water bottles and keep your eyes peeled!

Hikes to the summit: our top two picks

For seasoned walkers in search of breathtaking views, here are our top picks: lofty ridges, high-altitude lakes and sweeping panoramas.
Your efforts will be well rewarded, with trails that are sometimes steep, and that unique feeling of being alone in the world… or almost.

Guided walk The enhanced experience!

Fancy going for a walk in complete safety, learning to read the landscape, and discovering the local flora, fauna and geology…?

Hire a guide.

As mountain or environmental professionals, they share much more than just a route: their passion, their in-depth knowledge of the area, and often… their infectious good humour.

With animals The mountains, as a trusted companion

Fancy a different kind of walk, at a four-legged pace?

Go on a hike accompanied by animals: donkeys to carry your bags and delight the children, dogs for a dynamic and sporty dog-led hike… Here, every outing becomes a real adventure.

Roaming What if you were to go away for a few days?

A sense of absolute freedom.
Switch off, refocus, and marvel at the sunrise over a mountain ridge.
Here, a multi-day hike is an adventure on a human scale, in a welcoming and unspoilt area.

Mountain huts and bivouacs

Sleeping outdoors, yes… but not just any old way!

Wild camping is permitted in certain natural areas, subject to certain conditions.

For greater comfort, do also consider mountain huts, whether staffed or unstaffed.
They offer a warm welcome and often… a hearty Savoyard meal.

Trail running, Hiking… the active way

Here, some people choose to walk. Others prefer to run. Same terrain, different pace. Trail running is a lighter, more rhythmic version of hiking: you tackle one trail after another, conquer the elevation gain, and sometimes stop just long enough to admire the view. From forest tracks to panoramic ridges, the area is perfectly suited to the sport, whether you’re a curious trail runner or a seasoned runner.
