Description

La Rippe has been used as an ice house since the 18th century, along with 8 others.
It was used to store ice, which was chipped away in pieces and sold in Chambéry and Aix-les-Bains. This ice came from the depths of Margériaz chasm and was carried by men or mules over the Col de la Verne. Another method consisted of freezing water diverted from a stream. During the Inter-War Years, the ice house fell into disuse.
