This winter, enjoy a full day out in the great outdoors on La Traversée des Trappeurs, a magical loop between La Féclaz and Saint-François-de-Sales, in the heart of the Savoie Grand Revard ski area. Snowshoeing in the morning and skiing in the afternoon, you’ll follow a varied and enjoyable winter route, dotted with splendid views, snow-covered forests and tasty breaks.

Suitable for beginners to cross-country skiing or snowshoeing, this outing is a great opportunity to test your independence, put the advice you’ve learnt in lessons or courses into practice, and, above all, make the most of the wide-open spaces of Savoie.

The Trappeurs’ Crossing is, above all, a chance to share an experience. You can enjoy it as a couple, with your family or in a small group. It’s also a challenge that anyone can tackle, ideal for beginner hikers or cross-country skiers looking to improve. Here, there’s no race against the clock – just the pleasure of pushing yourself, at your own pace, in an exceptional natural setting.

La Féclaz

First thing in the morning, the atmosphere is one of adventure. Well-kitted out for winter (warm clothing, hat, gloves, sunglasses, sun cream and a rucksack with snacks and a water bottle), you’re ready to set off from La Féclaz, snowshoes on your feet.

The starting point is at the Nordic Attitude shop, where you can easily hire your equipment (booking recommended on 04 79 25 60 45). Make sure to mention that you’re setting off on the Traversée des Trappeurs: your equipment will be collected at the next stage.

Before you set off, don’t forget to download the free MHikes app, which will guide you along the route using the GPS track for the ‘Traversée des Trappeurs – Savoie Grand Revard’ itinerary. Just follow the app – it’s intuitive and safe.

On the way to
La Magne,
following in the footsteps of the trappers

You begin the crossing on a snow-covered footpath, lined with majestic fir trees. The path gradually widens as it leads to the Col de Plainpalais, with the Margériaz cliffs in your sights. The gently rolling terrain allows you to gradually immerse yourself in the Nordic atmosphere. After a few gentle hills and some beautiful panoramic views, you’ll reach the hamlet of La Magne, in Saint-François-de-Sales, after a walk of around 7 km.

This is the ideal time for your first break and to leave your snowshoes at Nordicéa, who will return them to La Féclaz for you.

A lunch break in the sunshine or by the fire

There are two options for refuelling:

Picnic option: settle down in the ‘picnic area’ at the Saint-François-de-Sales cross-country ski centre. Your basket, filled with carefully selected local specialities (Tome des Bauges cheese, country bread, local chocolate), will never have tasted so good.
Cosy option: step inside Nordicéa, a warm and welcoming spot, perfect for recharging your batteries. Homemade tartiflette, soup of the day, polenta with porcini mushrooms… the home-cooked dishes are prepared using Savoyard produce. As an added bonus: a hot chocolate by the fireside, a family board game or a spot of reading with the books provided.

Head for the great outdoors,
with cross-country skis on your feet

After lunch, it’s time to hit the slopes! At Nordicéa, the team will advise you on the best equipment for your level. Whether you prefer classic (alternating) skiing for a leisurely pace, or skating for a more invigorating workout, you’ll be well looked after.

Once you’ve got your Nordic ski pass, head for the groomed trails. The MHikes app or the trail markings will guide you along the second section of the Traversée des Trappeurs, this time on cross-country skis. In total, 8 km of skiing through forests and clearings await you.

You’ll start on the green trail at La Croix des Bergers, perfect for warming up. The snow crunches beneath your skis, the air is crisp and the horizon opens out onto the Bauges massif. You’ll cross the Creusates bog, a vast white expanse lined with traditional chalets, before joining the blue run of La Petite Teppe.

A gentle climb takes you up to the Crolles cross-country ski centre, before heading off towards the green run of l’Olette, in the direction of l’Arcoutier. The final stretch, which offers more sweeping views, takes you along the blue run of la Cavale, on the edge of the forest. Here, the view opens up, offering a spectacular panorama of the Belledonne massif, which is often tinged with pink at the end of the day.

Back to La Féclaz,
mission accomplished

The loop is slowly coming to a close. You arrive back in La Féclaz in the late afternoon, tired but delighted. You can return your ski equipment to Nordic Attitude; it will be transported back for you if required.

In a single day, you’ve covered nearly 15 km on snowshoes and cross-country skis, discovered stunning landscapes, shared memorable moments, and risen to a wonderful sporting and personal challenge. If you’ve recently taken a skiing or snowshoeing course, this outing is an excellent opportunity to improve your technique, gain independence and learn to pace yourself.

Round off your trip in style at the Tipi Village

To extend the adventure in true trapper style, head to Village Tipi, just a 10-minute drive away. On site: fun activities, Nordic wellness, a night in a teepee, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere to round off this unforgettable day.
