From Chambéry, head north The Belle Via to Chanaz

From Chambéry town centre, take the Belle Via, a gentle, even cycle route, towards Lake Bourget.

The route runs alongside the peaceful shores of France’s largest natural lake and passes through Aix-les-Bains, a renowned spa town. From the Grand Port, you can take your bike on board the ‘bike boat’, a unique river shuttle that takes you to the other side of the lake. This unusual mode of transport allows you to reach Chanaz whilst enjoying the scenery in a different way. The village, nicknamed ‘the little Venice of Savoy’, is an ideal stop-off with its canals, local craftspeople and waterside terraces.

La Belle Via,
a cycle route linked to the ViaRhôna

La Belle Via is a major cycle route linking Savoie to Isère and Haute-Savoie. It forms a key link between the major Alpine lakes and the Rhône Valley, and connects to the ViaRhôna, a European cycle route that follows the Rhône from Lake Geneva to the Mediterranean. This connection makes Chambéry an attractive stopover for both long-distance cyclists and day trippers.

From Chambéry, head south The Belle Via to Lake Saint-André and the vineyards of Savoie

Head for La Combe de Savoie, following the tracks that wind their way through the vineyards.

This walk takes you through vibrant agricultural landscapes, with several wineries open to visitors for a tasting of Mondeuse or Jacquère. At the end of the route, Lake Saint-André offers a refreshing break in peaceful surroundings at the foot of the Chartreuse Mountains. A perfect balance between exploring the local area and immersing yourself in nature.

Soft loop Towards Challes-les-Eaux

Just a few kilometres from Chambéry, Challes-les-Eaux is easily reached via a new, safe cycle path.

This route is suitable for everyone, particularly families and leisure cyclists. Along the way, you’ll cycle past Triviers Park, then the Challes lake, where it’s lovely to stop for a break. The town, once a spa resort, has a peaceful charm with its green spaces. Why not also take the opportunity to try out the new “comfort walk”, a pleasant walking route designed for gentle strolls and accessible to everyone.
