A wild adventure in the heart of nature The Bauges Massif

On the trail of wildlife in the Bauges

Fancy playing at being an explorer and discovering the wildlife of the Bauges Massif? Keep your eyes peeled, sharpen your powers of observation and let the tracks left on the paths guide you!

A protected area,
a sanctuary
for wildlife

Designated a Regional Nature Park and recognised as a UNESCO Global Geopark, the Bauges Massif is a vast sanctuary for wildlife. In these unspoilt landscapes, leaping chamois, elusive mouflon and majestic red deer share the territory with the boreal lynx, the ghost of the forests, and the golden eagle, lord of the heights.
The signs of their presence — faint footprints in the snow, scratched bark or well-hidden droppings — are all clues to a world that never fully reveals itself.

The art of observation: becoming an invisible guest

  • Walk like a shadow: move slowly and silently, so as not to give away your presence,
  • Open your senses wide: a cry, a rustle of leaves, a flutter of wings are enough to tell a story,
  • Keep your binoculars to hand: they allow you to get closer without disturbing the animals,
  • Favour dawn and dusk: those magical moments when wildlife comes to life.

Guided outings,
combining insights and discoveries

Fancy unravelling the mysteries of wildlife? Follow in the footsteps of passionate guides who know the mountains like the back of their hand. They’ll teach you to decipher the subtle clues left by the mountain’s inhabitants: footprints in the powder snow, stray feathers, fleeting tracks across the mountain pastures.
In winter, with snowshoes on your feet across the pristine white landscape, or in summer, on immersive hikes, every outing becomes a sensory adventure, an encounter with the unseen…

Farms’ Flavours of Les Bauges

Fancy an authentic experience that awakens your senses and piques your curiosity?
In the heart of the Bauges Massif, set off to meet the people who keep Savoyard farming traditions alive. Here, the methods of yesteryear give rise to the flavours of today. Amidst peaceful livestock, mature cheeses and authentic produce, the experience is not only a culinary delight but also a deeply human one.

An immersion in the rhythm of the mountains

Cows, goats, sheep… Every day, as you wander along a path or through a village, you’ll come across small-scale farms. The farmers and producers welcome you with warmth and passion. They share their expertise, explain the production process, and invite you to watch, touch and taste.

The most curious visitors can even witness key moments in daily farm life: milking, cheese moulding, or the traditional production of butter or Tome cheese. Others may prefer to wander through an educational area or simply enjoy a tasting of raw-milk cheeses whilst gazing at the mountain peaks.

A meaningful and delicious experience

Taking part in these tours is more than just a culinary delight: it’s a tangible way to support local supply chains, meet local producers, and gain a deeper understanding of the richness of a living heritage. You’ll leave with your arms full of local produce and your heart full of cherished memories.
