Situated at an altitude of 1,562 metres, at the western end of the Bauges massif, the Revard viewpoint and its three footbridges offer a majestic panoramic view of Lake Bourget, Aix-les-Bains, Chambéry and the Dent du Chat.
The footbridges, which allow visitors to enjoy the view, have become an unmissable stop for all passing visitors.
Along with La Féclaz and Saint François de Sales, Le Revard is one of the three sites making up the Savoie Grand Revard cross-country skiing area, one of the largest cross-country skiing plateaus in Europe, just 30 minutes from Chambéry and 20 minutes from Aix-les-Bains. Here, nature reigns supreme: fir forests, snow-covered valleys, alpine pastures in bloom in summer… everything invites you to contemplate the scenery and set off on an adventure.
Le Revard has left its mark on the history of tourism in Savoie. From the late 19th century onwards, it became a major destination for summer and winter tourism. The opening in 1892 of the rack-and-pinion railway – the first line of its kind in the mountains – revolutionised access to the resort. Spa guests and visitors from Aix-les-Bains and across Europe were then able to discover the joys of the mountains in a spectacular setting.
Although people had been skiing on the slopes of Le Revard as early as 1906, the winter resort was officially launched in 1909, making it one of the very first French winter sports resorts!
Le Revard was a pioneer: ski jumps were installed there as early as 1908, and prestigious Nordic competitions were a regular feature of winters in the early 20th century.
In 1935, the rack railway – which was unable to cope with the influx of visitors – was replaced by a cable car linking the valley to Le Revard. At the time, this cable car was one of the most powerful in the world! It marked a new stage in the resort’s growth as a tourist destination. With cabins capable of carrying 40 people, it transported up to 300 people per hour and remained in operation until 1969, before the road and cars took over.
Le Revard, near the Crolles car park, is one of the three sites in the Savoie Grand Revard cross-countryskiingarea. With 150 km of cross-country trails, the area is regarded as one of the best in France. Ski enthusiasts will also find a downhill ski area featuring a dozen slopes that are perfect for beginners and those looking to improve their skills.
At Le Revard, it’s all about skiing and adventure! From the ‘Luge en S’ for fast-paced, fun-filled descents to fat biking and marked snowshoe trails, there’s something for everyone to enjoy the winter. And, with a bit of luck, you might even spot some sled dogs.
In summer, Le Revard transforms into a vast playground for walkers, cyclists and mountain bikers.
