Keeping your dog under control means protecting everyone.
In the mountains, freedom is to be savoured… but it’s also to be shared! By keeping your dog close by, you’re preserving the peace and quiet of the wildlife, ensuring other walkers, trail runners and mountain bikers can enjoy themselves, and, above all, keeping your faithful companion safe. In the Bauges massif, there are numerous cliffs and chasms: every year, dogs suffer serious, and sometimes fatal, injuries there. A few simple precautions can prevent many tragedies… and allow you to enjoy your walk together to the full.

Dogs are not permitted in the Bauges National Hunting and Wildlife Reserve or in certain protected areas, in order to preserve the peace and quiet of the species living there. Before setting out, please check the Massif des Bauges Regional Nature Park website for the latest regulations, which are updated regularly.

Herds are often guarded by livestock guard dogs. These dogs, known as ‘patous’, watch over the animals and may regard an unfamiliar dog as a threat. To better understand their role and find out where they are found, visit pasto-kesako.fr. If you come across a herd, keep your distance and give the mountain pasture a wide berth.

Your dog’s poo is part of the experience: please remember to pick it up and take it with you, just like your own rubbish. A clean path is more enjoyable for everyone… including humans, dogs and nature!
