Astronomy Margériaz Aillons

A Date with the Stars

What if your holiday took on a whole new dimension? In Aillons Margériaz, the mountains aren’t just for daytime viewing: once night falls, a whole new spectacle begins… Welcome to a region where stargazing becomes an adventure in its own right, with constellations, a travelling planetarium and starlit walks.

An exceptional vantage point in the heart of the Bauges Massif

A note to night-sky enthusiasts: the heart of the Massif des Bauges is recognised as one of the best spots in the region for stargazing. Here, far from built-up areas and their light pollution, the night is still dark, deep and spectacular.

This unspoilt setting, within the Regional Nature Park, offers ideal conditions for observing the constellations with the naked eye, tracking the passage of a satellite, or scrutinising the details of a lunar crater through a telescope.

A luxury that has become rare, which Aillons Margériaz invites you to savour, with your eyes wide open.

An unspoilt mountain,
a sky free from light pollution

Thanks to the “Starry Sky” programme run by the Massif des Bauges Regional Nature Park and the voluntary switching off of street lighting in several local authorities, the night has regained all its magic.

The result? A sky of exceptional clarity, perfect for observing the Milky Way, meteor showers and other celestial phenomena throughout the year.

Activities and events Margériaz Aillons

Look up and let yourself be guided. With children’s workshops, introductory sessions and talks, astronomy is easy to discover here, combining learning with a sense of wonder. A break under the stars, to be savoured as a true taste of the Milky Way.

Walking to see better at night ‘Starry Sky’ Walk Aillon the Younger

In Aillons Margériaz, connecting with nature is also an experience under the stars. And it begins… during the day!

The “Starry Sky” walk in Aillon-le-Jeune, developed in collaboration with the Parc des Bauges, takes you up into the hills to understand the issues surrounding light pollution and learn how to observe the night sky more effectively. Educational panels line the trail: here you’ll discover how the night works, why it’s essential to preserve it, and what steps you can take to live in harmony with it. A lovely circular walk accessible to all, to be enjoyed before an evening of stargazing or simply to reconnect with the universe… in broad daylight.
